South Irving Library Community Input Meetings: The Irving Public Library invites residents to review plans for the new South Irving Library by participating in a community input meeting at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 9 or Aug. 11 in the City Council Conference Room at City Hall, 825 W. Police Community Meeting: A community meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Heritage Senior Center, 200 S. Jefferson St., to inform residents and businesses about the Police Department Problem Solving Team’s plan to create a safer southeast Irving.
Grease Collection Bags: The City of Irving is offering grease collection bags to help residents prevent costly sewer overflows. Child Immunizations: Free immunizations will be given to 500 eligible VFC-eligible, school-aged children at the Back to School Fiesta from 3 to 7 p.m. Aug. 18 at Irving Mall, on the lower level near the food court. Disaster Training: Members of the Irving community are invited to become a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) member. A free, two-day training is being offered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 24-25 at the Irving Police and Fire Training Academy, 2603 Esters Road. Participants will be trained to be self-sufficient for up to 72 hours following a major incident and learn how to provide critical support to professional first responders, assistance to disaster victims, and how to spontaneously organize volunteers at disaster sites. Buck-a-Book Children’s Book Sale: The Friends of the Irving Public Library will host a special children’s discount book sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 13 and 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Irving Central Library, 801 W. Irving Blvd. Every book will sell for $1 and proceeds will benefit the library.
Supplies for Success: Make a difference in a child’s life through the Supplies for Success Drive. Sponsored by the mayor and the Irving Fire Department, the drive will provide school supplies to Irving ISD children from low-income families. Grant Applications: Grant funding, between the amounts of $250 and $1,500, is available to neighborhood associations for neighborhood beautification, special events, newsletters and website development. Communication Survey: A communication survey has been developed and posted to the city website to obtain input from residents about the communication tools used to promote city services and programs.
